i cant get connected- incorrect ip address

when i try to connect to live it says there is a conflict with the ip adress. i have tryed wireless, i have tryed hooking straight in to router. i am suppose to get a year free with game could this be the problem
i think thats problem i am not sure that there is a game comes live for one year i know about games that has like 48 hours of live but not no year.

whats an ethernet cord?

where is the Ethernet cord and how do i get it?
its a cord that is use for highspeed internet its like a phone line and you can get it at any store that sells computer stuff like best buy, target, etc......
