doesn't work as claimed for older MACs

despite one of the answers to a question being that it works for MAC OS 10.6 or greater, in order to work as claimed (being able to share data between MAC and Windows) you need at least MAC OS 10.9. With my MAC OS 10.6.8, I reformatted it which enabled me to use it to store data, but I can not share that data with a windows system.
I would recommend this to a friend!

I ordered this online. Nowhere online (I double checked after getting the product) did it specify that it was only compatible with Mac OSX 10.9 or greater. So it's incompatible with my Mac despite saying it was Timemachine compatible.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Will this product work with a Mac OS X 10.5.8? I cannot get through the setup process.

No, it won't. I had the same problem with my Mac OSX 10.6.8. Despite the online info saying it is compatible with timemachine, it only works with Mac OSX 10.9 or greater, which it did NOT say anywhere online. (On the package of the device itself, it does say in very small print that it's only compatible with Mac OSX 10.9 or greater.)
