This clock was chosen because it is one of the few that still offers AM/FM frequencies. In addition many clocks are specifically iPod compatible and not a feature that is of interest. This is replacing an older and larger stereo alarm click with a CD player. Not a huge fan of Sony but it had the features of interest and the price was reasonable. It only has one speaker so if great sound and stereo is high on the option list then this is not for you. It offers sounds, typical alarm tone(s) and AM/FM radio. It also measures room temperature which is a nice add-on and seems accurate. I honestly would prefer a better sounding stereo model but are difficult to find unless it is iPhone/iPod centered.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

how to get better AM reception

just bought this and like all it's features except I like to listen to AM radio in the evening and for
morning news etc--it is very staticy--the antenna doesn't seem to help nor does moving it
around. Any suggestions!!
I don't know if I can do better with another brand or model--they just don't make them
like they used too
I bought this for that very reason but only to wake up by so it's not used heavily. In most instances the clock is located near a window. I had an old antenna wire from another device that I just connected to the included antenna wire and it hangs on the blinds behind curtains so it's discrete and not very visible and improves the signal greatly. It seems some times of the year the signal is worse than others but mostly it's okay.
