What's great about it: Works great and the storage is awesome. Nice Price
What's not so great: The only small negative is that it doesn't retract.

Will this work for a Dell laptop?

This should work on any computer that has a USB input slot.

Can I append data,or does the new data overwrite old data?

These items act like another hard drive. The only way it would overwrite data is if the file names are the same, and usually windows will inform you of that and ask if you want to overwrite.
