 NETGEAR - RangeMax IEEE 802.11n USB - Wi-Fi Adapter - Black
NETGEAR - RangeMax IEEE 802.11n USB - Wi-Fi Adapter - Black
Wirelessly surf, email, stream HD video, on-line game, make Internet phone calls. Less interference and better connections using dual band Wireless-N. Better speed and range than other USB Wireless-N adapters. Easy and secure wireless connections. Works with older Wi-Fi as well as new Wireless-N networks.

Great product but a tad pricey...

What's great about it: connection speeds, installation
What's not so great: Price
I received a new PC as a graduation present and I needed a wireless network adapter, so I visited BestBuy to see what they had in stock. I actually picked this one up thinking it was a different model. at around $85, it was honestly a little more than I wanted to pay, but once I saw that it was apparently the best model put out by Netgear, I decided to get it anyway.
The installation could not be any simpler, really. All you do is put the CD into your computer and follow the prompts. I was connected to the internet in about two minutes.
Once in a blue moon, I have a connection issue for about 10 seconds, but that could very well be the location of my computer in relation to the router. Otherwise my connections are superior to the other three computers in my home that do not use this device.
If you're looking for great speed and don't mind spending just a tad more for it, then go ahead and pick this up.
I would recommend this to a friend!

do i need a wireless range expander with this product

Obviously it depends where you will be using it in relation to where the router is in your home.

If you're using it inside your home or on the deck or something, you will most likely be fine.

The wireless card is going out on my laptop. Is this a good option instead of a new laptop?

I already have a netgear wireless router hooked up to my modem.
If you have the extra USB port on your laptop to devote to this device, then sure. I am using this on a desktop, however. You will most likely experience better connections with this device installed than when your wireless card was fully operational.
