What's great about it: Form, battery, multi-directional sound, max output, water-resistance....
What's not so great: Bass
I rarely purchase anything over $100 without a fair amount of research as to my best option considering value and quality. I purchased the UE Boom after reading many reviews and eventually hands-on testing of my top picks. It was difficult for me to decide between this speaker and another as they were so close. In my experience, the most notable features were the Boom's multi-directional sound and the high volume with low distortion. The one lacking aspect that really turned me off was the poor bass output. Bass is virtually non-existent. Highs and mids are crisp and clear but the bass is so inadequate that it is distracting. I am not referring to a Sir Mix-A-Lot window rattling bass. Imagine if McCartney only sang and didn't play bass or the Red Hot Chili Peppers without Flea. The lack of bass is the only thing the Boom needs to make this the perfect Bluetooth speaker.
The bottom line is if you are a young twenty-something who has frequent large gatherings outdoors during the summer, this is the speaker for you. If you are a little more experienced in life (slightly older) and enjoy craft beer while toasting a few premium cigars with some good friends, you might want to consider the Bose Soundlink Mini. I returned the Boom and purchased the Mini. It is tiers above the Boom for sound quality but it should be noted that it is much less convenient than the Boom. I am willing to give up convenience for sound quality. The speakers sole purpose is to play music so sound quality should be given priority. The Boom can be placed anywhere and fill the entire area with it's 360 design, it's simply amazing. Place the Mini in the corner of a room and you're good. The Boom can be left outside and survive a rain storm. Don't forget the Mini outside. The Boom has a higher sound level output. If you own a Mini, don't invite over your friends who scream their glory-days stories.
Combine the features of the Boom with the sound of the Soundlink Mini and you have the perfect Bluetooth speaker.
This product has... Perfect fit
I would recommend this to a friend!

Bose® SoundLink® Mini Speaker: Enjoy full, robust sound anywhere you go with this speaker that features an ultracompact design for easy movement from room to room. Bluetooth technology allows you to wirelessly stream music and more from your compatible cell phone, audio player and more.

Does it damage anything if you use it while it is on the charging dock?

The Bose Soundlink Mini has a lithium Ion battery. Lithium Ion batteries have been shown to lose capacity if constantly charged. On the flipside, completely discharging them for an extended period of time will also diminish their capacity. They are much more durable to the older NiMH and NiCd batteries as they do not suffer from "memory effect".

The Bose Soundlink Mini has a multi-colored power indicator. Flashing yellow means charging. Green is a charge of 70%-100%. Solid yellow is 20%-70%. Red indicates 20% or below. Ideally you will want to keep the charge between 20%-100%. I would recommend charging it full then using it wireless. Once it hits yellow, use it for a few more hours wireless while still yellow then charge it fully. This should maximize battery life.

Luckily for you. Bose made this speaker with a replaceable battery while virtually all other Bluetooth speakers have an un-serviceable battery.

Can Sound Link Mini speaker be connected to AC power source all the time without damaging the battery?

Why does the Bose Mini have a mini USB port on its bottom ?

This is strictly for firmware updates. No sound or charge will pass through it.

Bose Sound Link Mini--after using speaker while connected to AC power, the yellow power indicator blinked momentarily. Why did this happen?

I keep the speaker connected to AC power at all times.
The yellow power indicator blinks when the speaker is charging. If you are keeping the speaker on AC all the time, the blinking is most likely from the speaker becoming ever so slightly discharged then becoming fully charged or it is checking the power level. I would not be concerned about the blinking. It is not good to keep a lithium-ion battery on constant charge. Although lithium-ion batteries do not have the "memory effect" the old NiMH or NiCd batteries had, it had been shown that lithium-ion batteries can lose capacity if constantly charged. Ideally the speaker will not drop below 20% which would be indicated by a red power light in this particular speaker.

I would recommend using the speaker off-charge until the power light turns from green (70% -100%) to yellow (20%-70%) then charging it back up. A red power light indicates a charge level of 20% or below.

Hope this helps.

powerpoint performance

Will this speaker work for a laptop link up for power point presentations, or video presentations.
Only if the computer has Bluetooth or you connect it through the headphone jack. You will need a stereo a wire with a 3.5 mm jack on both ends (BestBuy SKU# 4895315 for $4.99). Plug one end into the computer and the other end into the speaker. Alternatively, if you have Bluetooth on your laptop, pair it with the speaker and you're good to go. If you go with Bluetooth, I would still have the wire as a backup as it will be much more reliable.
