Definitely fast. My laptop turns on in about 4 seconds. My only problem is its capacity. So I returned it and bought the 500GB one.

What's great about it: Light, i5, backlit keyboard, touch screen, good graphics
What's not so great: battery not very easily accessible, fingerprints
I have been a Sony laptop user. Now that my old laptop broke and went ahead and bought this Asus laptop. I am particularly after a laptop with Intel Wireless Display (WIDI) capability. So far I am pleased with my purchase. It is easy to setup, touch screen, graphics display is great, backlit keyboard is perfect. What I don't like about it is leaves fingerprints on the cover. Touchpad was a little slow at first but it may be because of the windows 8.1. It got better after I ran the Asus smart gesture to adjust it. I also had issues in how to make the WIDI display work. Asus customer support is not very knowledgeable with their product. I thought the laptop didn't really have WIDI and then I found out it was my Netgear PTV2000 that will not work with Windows 8.1. All in all I am satisfied with my purchase. Thank you, Best Buy!

About me... Budget Conscious, Basic web surfing & emails, Parent with kids, Comfortable with technology

What's great about it: Ease of use
What's not so great: Lagging
This item was recommended to me by a best buy sales person. I had to return it because it was lagging really bad. :( I don't know if it was defective, but I sure know it's not my connection. I took it back to the store the next day.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

What's great about it: Wireless connection from PC to TV
What's not so great: Doesn't stay connected for more than 5 minutes
I have a Netgear ptv2000 that worked good with my old laptop that has windows 7 OS. I bought a new laptop and sadly my ptv2000 doesn't work with my new laptop that runs in windows 8.1. I was advised by the netgear customer support that I need to buy the ptv3000 if I want it to work with windows 8.1. Customer service was ok. I had problems with the picture size being to small for may wide screen tv. They helped me work it out and adjusted it to how it's supposed to be. Then after it started working on the picture size issue, it started disconnecting and won't stay connected for more than 5 minutes. I don't know if the unit I got was just defective but I've had enough of it. I took it back to best buy.

No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Asus has given two conflicting answers to questions here regarding memory upgrades. Can it be upgraded? If so, to how much and can the user do this.

About 1 month ago, an ASUS rep told one questioner that memory on this computer can be upgraded. However, at about the same time (4 weeks ago), an ASUS rep told another questioner that the 8 GB the computer comes with is the maximum memory capacity, so it could not be upgraded. I don't see how both answers could be correct. Which answer is true?
I found out that the laptop only has 1 RAM slot. It has a built in 4GB on the board. Asus rep informed me the specs of the RAM this laptop could take to upgrade it:
8GB DDR3 1600Mhz PC3 14900. That's what I bought and it worked. My laptop now runs 12GB RAM.

Can a consumer do their own battery replacement if needed?

This post said the battery could be replaced , but it was difficult. Why is it difficult?
Not very difficult but just be a little careful. It is not like other laptops where you just slide a button to remove the battery. In this laptop, you'll have to remove 10 screws at the back, exposing the whole circuitry. Then once open, you can unscrew the battery from it and replace. Check the photos.

Does this Push2TV WiDi Adapter work with Windows 8.1?

It does. But I had to return mine because it won't stay connected. :(
