What's great about it: There is a Beta DD-WRT
What's not so great: OEM FIrmware
I purchased this based on reviews (at BestBuy, but didn't use my rewards card when purchased# and after a few months, the firmware would become corrupt. Re-Flashing would fix the issue for about a month, then back to square one. DD-WRT has the router in the database, but it is listed as WIP 'work in progress'. However, the forum has a member who has created 5 beta's and one stable version #which I am using#. So far the router has not crapped out and the range is incredible. Performance since the upgrade has been significantly better than with the OEM firmware and so far has not resulted in the green flashing power light.

more ethernet ports

I have a router that allows for four (4) ethernet connections. I need five (5) or more.

Any suggestions? Solutions? Something easier than buying a new and more expansive router?
Really depends on your router and what you want to spend. From what I see from your post, you don't want anything expensive. If your router supports 10/100/1000Mbps, then look at the TP-Link TL-SG1008D 8-Port Gigabit switch or the TrendNet TEG-S80G 8-Port Gigabit switch (both under $30). If your router only supports 10/100Mbps, look at the TrendNet TE100-S8 8-port or the Rosewill RC-406X 8-port (both under $15).
