What's great about it: Nice TV for the cost.
What's not so great: No DTV program guide or program information at all...none.
If you receive broadcast DTV do not buy Sharp. Even the least expensive HDTV's have an "electronic program guide" which shows what programs are currently on the broadcast (antennae# channels, a detailed synopsis #description# of each program, and what programs are coming on for at least the next few hours and the details for each show. My Samsung can even schedule the TV to switch channels when a show comes on. Not Sharp Only good for use with a Set-Top-Box or as a monitor or for viewing internet TV. You will click the giant NETFLIX button protruding from the remote whether you intend to or not.
The USB works well except for viewing pictures, it has no way to zoom in or your pictures, nor can it even enlarge the picture to fill the screen, neither horizontally nor vertically. It is weak for playing music as well. It will reveal no information about your music files, and it cannot fast-forward/rewind/skip through songs. For videos, it generally plays the formats listed in the manual, and they look very good. And it can automatically resize the video to fill the screen horizontally or vertically #whichever comes first). To bad it can't do that for photos.
The DLNA home network access is easy to set up and works much like the USB, except most of the features and capabilities have been stripped out when using DLNA. Too bad. The implementation is OK, but could have been so much better.
A lot of reviewers complain about the sound/speakers. The audio is not superb, but the speakers don't unnecessarily rattle, or sound too tinny after you tweak the many audio adjustments. I find the audio adequate for viewing most mundane TV shows.
This product has... Easy to set up, Great value and features for the price, Right number of connections, no digital tv guide function

Is the tv screen back lit or edge lit? Thank you.

It says it is "edge lit."
