What's great about it: Syncs with phone, Good for notifications, Flashy display
What's not so great: bulky for my taste, poor fitness tracker
After anticipating the release of the Gear Fit for months, I was sadly disappointed when I finally got it. I like the fact that the Gear Fit has a flashy display, but the whole thing is a little bulky for my taste.
You can receive a notification on the Gear Fit for just about any app on your phone or tablet, but that can be distracting so I limited notications to just calls and text messages. I find the notifications helpful for when my phone is in my purse or somewhere not readily accessible, but responses are limited. You can set up additional responses from your phone that may be more your liking. The Gear Fit connects to the phone via bluetooth so you will only get notifcations when your phone or tablet is in range.
I was looking for a fitness tracker that would work as a heart rate monitor and track calories during my workouts. Sadly, the gear fit doesn't work like that (from what I can tell). There are only 4 exercise categories to choose from. I've reverted back to wearing my heart rate monitor and strap during my workouts.
It also has a timer, stopwatch and sleep tracker. I have not had a use for the timer or stopwatch, but I've used the sleep tracker a couple times. It supposedly tracks how motionless you are during your sleep and how long you've slept.
The battery lasts about 3-4 days for me, but I assume that is because I am not using it as much as some other reviewers.
I probably use it more as a watch and outside temperature tracker than anything.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Will this device track sleep activity, including time slept and/or quality of sleep? Thanks

The device tracks how long you've slept and how motionless you are during your sleep (as a percentage).
