Once I got it working, it creates better coverage than my old Netgear WNDR3700 BGN router from 2011. Apparently, you cannot use MAC filtering at all with this device and it is necessary to use a network cable to configure successfully. I also had to do a firmware upgrade to get it all ironed out. So after 4 hours of piddling around with it here are rest of the setup instructions: You must turn MAC filtering off it you are using it. Your wireless SSID must be broadcast. If it isn't, neither the setup wizard nor manual setup will ever recognize and connect with the network. Check the Netgear support site for firmware upgrade (which must be done with a network cable# Finally, successful configuration happens quickly with the network cable plugged in #note: the default address for the Extender is 192.168.1.250) Once you get through setup, it work fantastic..

where should i put the device next to my router or the opposite side of the house
It should be away from your router, but within range. it will extend coverage. think of it as 2 circles that overlap slightly but don't lay on top of each other
