What's great about it: Thin and easy to transport
What's not so great: Software is not very useful
Self-powered through the USB. Has USB 3.0 so it can be very fast. Software on it not very useful, but I didn't need it so no big deal.
This product has... Attractive design/portable, Quiet, Large capacity/good size
About me... Budget Conscious, Technology guru, Business Professional, Need a simple backup solution

Does this drive require the use of its own software to run a back up?
Am I able to use the Windows 7 back-up that's "built" into Windows or another back-up program of my choice instead of using the Seagate back-up software that's supplied with this drive?
Yes, you can use Windows backup software with this drive as well as any other backup program.

will this harddrive work in my dell optiplex gx270 desktop
Yep. Should work fine. This box includes the SATA cable. Just make sure you have a SATA power connector available in the machine.
