does the head unit have sub woofer controls like lowering the hz? and or turning off the subwoofer from the unit controls?

The radio does over subwoofer level control and turning on/off the subwoofer.

is the JVC radio suitable for installation in a boat?

The radio is not a marine grade radio and is also not water proof. It maybe best to look into a marine model or water proof if in case it gets wet.

Can you sync to a smart TV with these?

The headphones are intended to be used with a Bluetooth phone or tablet devices. When pairing the headphones to anyone of these devices the phone for instance would see the JVC as a device and agree with the pairing. I would advice to check with the TV company on what options for Bluetooth your TV has.

The install manual describes an orange/white wire as 'Illumination'. I want to replace an existing radio in an older motorhome and the motorhome does not have a corresponding orange/white wire. What does it do? Can I leave it disconnected?

The illumination wire when connected will dim the radio when the head lights are turned on. This is not a required connection so if your vehicle doesn't have this connection simply just put a cap on it. Again its not a required connection.
