Will this fit a 2016 Malibu Limited LT? My car did not come with a backup camera. Also, the Malibu’s stereo screen lifts for storage, will I still be able to use that storage space?

What is the maximum number of mp3 files that I could load on a usb thumb drive for use in this unit? The owners manual does not address this - as far as I can tell.

There is a USB structure layer that is used when it comes to USB files. To check into this please call JVC they will inform you on this as this varies from radio to radio.

Does the detachable faceplate decrease the size of the stereo? My car has a 172mm wide opening, the manufacturer website has the "installation size" as 182mm wide. Is it smaller without the faceplate or is the faceplate necessary for the installation?

The installation size is the overall measurements with the face plate. The face plate is necessary as it is part of the radio.

I am seeking a double din radio that shows you the oil level on the car, also gas level, and when the car needs service with all other features. Any suggestions?

Looking at the radio itself it does not offer these options however you may want to check with iDatalink as the radio has the option of adding the Maestro adapter that integrates some OEM features. You can contact them to see what all it will integrate depending on your vehicle.

Are you able to add custom backgrounds/wallpapers from your phone to this?

In order to add background image that needs to be done from a USB flash drive. The radio will not let you use your phone for that. You can always call JVC to check into this process.
