how do you take off the protected memory card notice after inserting the memory card ?

tried a 4gb SanDisk ultra card then a PNY premium 8gb card and still get the protected memory card notice..... did slide the protected tab on both cards....is there a problem with this new camera ?
If the card locks are in the correct position as you are stating, then try formatting the cards first.

(Menu, Setup, Format) Should the problem persist, please contact Fujifilm Customer Service.

external filters

can this camera utilize external filters, such as a polarizing filter, or clear filter to protect the camera lens?
Absolutely! The lens diameter is 58mm and any standard filter will fit!
