Can I download and upload remotely?

I have noticed in other reviews that purchasers of My Cloud are having trouble accessing files from anywhere outside the home network (ie over the internet from remote sites). Is this an issue? Also, the product description states you need to have a Dropbox (or other) account to access your files. So does that mean I'm also paying for a larger Dropbox account just to use My Cloud when away from home? Thanks.

WD My Cloud is designed to work with the My Cloud Mobile and My Cloud Desktop applications when you are away from the home. It is designed to be your Personal Cloud. We have made improvements and recommend users update their My Cloud to the latest firmware -- something they can do after initial setup.

In terms of Dropbox -- the My Cloud Mobile app for iOS and Android will allow you to access your Dropbox from within the App. Useful if you wanted to move files from Dropbox to My Cloud (or vice-versa). This is purely optional.

Yes, it can depending on the version of Windows you have. Most Windows PC has either File Share or DLNA enabled. Here is a nice article that talks about the "Play To" feature in Windows that can send a file to the WD TV Live.

I have a 4tb HDD which can not be recognized by my samsung tv directly. will this device work with the 4tb drive. I have seen others that work with a 2tb

Yes - the WD TV Live media player has been tested with and recognizes 4TB USB attached drives -- especially the My Book family of direct attached storage.

The USB 3.0 connection is backwards compatible and will work when used with USB 2.0 ports. However keep in mind that once connected to a USB 2.0 host the drive will perform at USB 2.0 speeds
