Customize my desktop

Some features on the desktop I am looking at are absolutely unnecessary and extremely costly. I would like to take off these unneeded parts so that the price would be reduced. Also I would like to upgrade some of the "stock" components so that my computer can perform in the way I intend to use it i.e. playing games.
