will it work even if you dont hook up the steam

my washer and dryer are nowhere near each other ( old house, dont ask) . If later on I move and am able to use the steam option, I would like to have a dryer that can do this at that time. Will the dryer work NOW, if I dont hook up the steam option?

Does the depth of 35.6 inches measured from the back wall or the back of the unit?

My current unit is 33 inches deep, with another 2 inches of clearance between the unit and the wall. When this one is described as 35.6 inches deep, does that include the clearance between the unit and the wall?
The listed depth is from the back of the unit to the front including handles.
