Confused: is unlocked and no contract synonymous

I want to buy the gear s and I currently have att. I don't want to add another line and I don't to enter into a new contract. When my current contract is up, I would like to still use the watch
Unlocked means you can use it on any network, as long as it has a SIM card slot, you will be able to use this watch after your contract is up. No contract is not the same, there still are no contract phones that are service locked.
