My computer connecting to another's network. Unsafe?
My computer has been connecting to someone else's network, and my network has disappeared (when I click on the small icon on the bar at the bottom of the screen that shows you the networks available). This leaves me afraid to pay bills or make purchases on my own computer. Why did this happen? And what can I do about it? I was using a Netgear router because a laptop is also used in our home. Would resetting the router and creating a new network help? Is there a way to block out all other networks but mine?
You'll want to reset the router, if it's not populating on the list of connections. If you're not able to find the router after resetting it, and waiting for it to start broadcasting (should take around 2 minutes) then you might want to contact the manufacturer about a replacement, if it's still under warranty.
You shouldn't connect to another person's network with any sensitive information, or do anything that you wouldn't want a random person to know of.
