What's great about it: Easy to plug into device
What's not so great: cord could be longer
Obviously this is a necessity to an apple device. This was purchased for an iPad Mini, as a replacement. Because the device's plug is at the bottom of the pad this accessory needs to be more durable because many apps can only be viewed in portrait mode which results in pressure on the edge of the plug (hence, why I needed to replace this expensive item).

What's great about it: Easy to set up, prints great, individual color cartridges (saves on ink waste)
What's not so great: It's larger in size than what I prefer
I recently purchased a Kodak printer, recommended by the salesperson, because of the photo printing features and ink saving claims. I had nothing but problems and took it back for a replacement.... same thing with the replacement. SO this time I decided to give HP a try since I had really liked a HP printer I had years ago. Although this printer is larger than I like, it's the ONLY negative thing I've ran into. It prints quickly, there's an iPhone app to print directly from an iPhone, it has the separate color cartridges so you only have to buy which ever ink you run out of and not waste any unused ink. It scans well too. I had a recent paper jam and wasn't able to get the paper completely removed from the back side. The onscreen dialog informed me of accessing the jam from the cartridge area as a last resort and I was EASILY able to remove the rest of the jammed paper. I also love that you can load a TON of paper into the bin, eliminating the need to reload paper as often as other printers. I absolutely love this printer! The price was very reasonable as well Way to go HP!

Is HP 8600 compatible with the Mac Family Tree application for scanning?
I use a MacBook and iPhone and have had no unresolved printing or scanning issues with this printer and the compatibility. I don't use the 'family tree' app though and can't specifically answer that question. If they don't work together it's probably an app issue and they will need to eventually update the app. I would make a suggestion to the app maker.

new hp 8600 all-in-one
after uneventful uses of the printer for three days printer started making odd squeaking or rubbing sounds during print cycle
Was all of the packaging tape removed? if so, sounds like a defect. Take it back to the store you purchased it from and get a replacement.
