I've been using Wemo switches for a couple of years now. I've been trying to automate my house. I bought this to use in conjunction with my Amazon Echo (i have several around the house). The problem is, it works about 50% of the time. I find myself having an argument with Alexa for about five minutes every night trying to get her to shut off lights. This is clearly a problem with the API and/or the Wemo app itself. Most of the time the devices "are not responding."
Often when I open the Wemo app it takes a long time for all of the devices to register. I recently bought several Philips Hue bulbs (also at Best Buy) and those work incredibly well. They always go on and off when asked. So now i'm considering taking out all of the Wemo switches and just putting Hue bulbs in all of the lamps in the house. A very expensive switch to say the least. (Pun intended)

Can I use the Belkin switch to turn my TV on when I'm not home? Have tried to set it up but it seems the TV power goes out when the switch is turned off and needs to be turned on with the remote.
You're right that it won't. Once the power goes off the TV shuts down. When you switch the power back on (via Wemo) the TV would need to be manually turned back on.
There may be a type of SmartTV that you could buy that would allow you access to turn it on and off via internet. Not sure.

This may sound stupid- but can I use the app to operate the Belkin switch, say.... from India?
Yes, you can. I used to turn and off the lights in the house to freak out my boyfriend when I would travel. A very fun game.

Does the WeMo switch dim lights too? If not is there another Wemo device that does dim lighting?
This switch does not. If you want to dim, get the Philips Hue bulbs. They're a much better product IMO. They turn on and off (like Wemo) but they also change brightness and "color".
The Wemo is just a switch. On or Off.

Does this work with Nest ?
I don't think so. The nest is hardwired plus battery operated and has it's own Wifi connection so it doesn't require a Wemo switch. The nest app will turn on and off the device.
It does work in conjunction with the Wemo switches if you wanted to create "recipes" through IFTTT (IF This Then That). For example, i used to set the nest to turn on the AC when I would ride my bike and cross a 1 mile radius around my home so that by the time i would get back home, the house would be nice and cool. I also had it turn on the foyer light and the ceiling fan in the bedroom all at the same time it would set the nest. IFTTT powered all of that.

Does this switch require any other hardware to operate? For example, some sort of master hub like other products require?
No. This works with the app on your smart phone. That is all you need.
