what sort of range do you have away from the base?

Pretty good range. I would estimate 20-30 yards.

Does this phone system have headset jacks on the handsets?

I don't see any anywhere on the handset.

Can I talk on one handset, then have my husband pick up a different handset, so we cam both speak/listen at the same time?

Can I talk on one handset, then have my husband pick up a different handset downstairs, so we can both speak/listen with the person on the line at the same time?

The answering phone I currently have won't let us use it that way. If I have a call & answer it, he can't hear or talk to whoever is on the line, unless I actually go downstairs & HAND him the handset - but THEN I CAN'T hear or talk to the person..

Yes, you can pick up on another phone and both talk to the caller.
