You can hear things very well, but the earpads could have more of a soft cushion. You can't wear thing for a long time.

I want to use this for only DVD’s not CD. I want them to all stand up vertically. Are shelves adjustable so I can do this? How many DVD s will this unit hold doing it like this?

Yes, you can use this for DVD's and stand them up vertically. The shelves are adjustable to do it. It will end up holding about 25 - 28 DVD's (according to size) per shelf.
Wiih 4 shelves, you can have about 100 - 110 DVD's per unit. Of course, the wider the DVD, the less you will be able to put on the unit.
