I own a number of streaming media devices, and the Chromecast is definitely the winner in terms of Price:Performance ratio.
It's cheap. Nothing more to say really, it's cheaper than devices it competes again.
It's high quality. The device is simple, but you can tell it's sturdy and well made.
It does just about everything. A huge number of apps work with Chromecast, and it is my absolute go to device for streaming from Netflix, Hulu, Youtube and HBOgo. Unfortunately Amazon doesn't enable streaming from Amazon Instant Video to the Chromecast, as they sell a competing device (which I also own.)
The only reason to opt for a different streaming stick is if your primary service is Amazon Instant Video - if that's the case, you want the Amazon FireTV stick. Anyone else? Buy a Chromecast, end of discussion.

We bought this Television to put in my daughters playroom. It's a durable screen that's had toys and sticky hands bumped against it without issue and was on the cheaper end of the Televisions in this size range - perfect for our needs.
Picture is admittedly not as good as the more expensive units we have in our bedroom or our living room, but the quality is plenty good enough for watching cartoons on Netflix.
If you're looking for a bargain priced panel that will survive the perils of being in a kids playroom, this is the TV for you.
I would recommend this to a friend!

I have Netfix on my laptop. Can the chromecast put it on my TV?

If you're using the Chrome browser then yes - you should be able to cast anything you view in the Chrome browser to a TV with a Chromecast.

Use google chrome cast as HD set top box

I am going to buy a smart HD TV . Can the google chrome cast be used as HD set top box? Is it a good substitute for HD set top boxes rented out by cable companies?

There are no apps I'm aware of that would allow the Chromecast to function as a Cable set top box replacement.
