It's simple. XL stands for extended life. The XL cartridge is supposed to yield approx. 600 copies while the regular cartridge is supposed to yield 300 copies. Yes, it will fit in the J470DW printer.

does this model have ability to produce a deep shade of black?
What is the contrast ratio? I want to be sure this model can produce a deep shade of black
Toner works fine, but I've had to switch to the extended-life cartridge as the regular cartridge doesn't last as long as I thought it should.
