This device was my first venture into the wearables market. I think that this is currently the best offering available for a smartwatch. It has a great feature set and the form factor is great for larger people, like myself.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Does the watch still have a lot of functions that work if I leave my house and leave my smartphone at home?

I am wondering how "tied" the watch is to my android smartphone. For example, what can I do with the watch when I don't have my smartphone nearby and paired to it via bluetooth.
Some of the features are tied to the phone exclusively but there are some features that function on the watch as a standalone. You are able to view the Pedometer and Heart Rate Monitor as well as change the settings. When i first picked up the device my smartphone battery was low, too low to turn on bluetooth in my opinion so i wore the watch for almost 10 hours in standalone mode.
