This particular device performs as a keyboard and offers a small measure of protection against breakage however it does not have a backlight and and it is not waterproof. It does not offer the protection that the Zagg folio offered, Since Zagg no longer produces the folio, I would rather have this over nothing.
I would recommend this to a friend!

I love the keyboard but could be more durable. This is my forth purchase of this type however the first for the iPad mini 4. I bought the geek squad protection this time.

I previously owned an iPad mini 2 and wanted to upgrade to,the most current version and I love it! I placed it inside of the corresponding Zagg Folio keyboard and I get so many compliments on my mini computer.

What's great about it: Excellent for acccurate typing. Saves time and limits errors and redos due to sensitive touch screens.
What's not so great: Requires a small period of adjustment to size of keyboard
This device enables me to operate my ipad mini like a regulalr size notebook. Great for mature adults who may not be as destorus as they once were.

can the keyboard be paired with a phone id the mini is off?
I believe so. I have paired it with another device while my mini 4 was off.

Will the ZaGGkeys Folio Keyboard Case fit both IPAD mini and new retina display?

I just bought a ZaGGkeys Folio Keyboard Case for a new IPAD mini - now, the case is on it's way and I'm thinking I may trade for an IPAD mini with the new Retina display. Will my new case fit the retina display as well as the old generation IPAD mini?
Yes. That is the type of mini I use with my Zagg keyboard. Also, the cover/keyboard provides excellent protection for my mini. It has a really good feel and take the mini to a new deminsion.
