The description says a fiber optic wire is used to connect the tv to the box. How long is this cable and it's diameter?

cable not that long. it's meant to be near the tv. diameter is pretty standard. like a decent power strip cable

Does it need to be calibrated...the old ones did

No. Good to go out the box

Its on the control panel most kids cant reach it, and if they go thru the troibke of standing on something then they still wont figure it out

Comes with an adaptor so both will work

Can Skype be downloaded and used on this device?

I want to get my daughter a tablets she can Skype with me wherever I'm at. I was wondering if this device can download and use Skype on here?

Yes. You just have to allow it for her to use it in the kid settings
