Bought for a senior friend on tight budget. Astounding value. Enough memory and CPU to make routine web surfing, email, Facebook, Skype etc. pleasurable and smooth. WiFi range was excellent, battery life was very good. Optical drive was an unexpected bonus in this price range. Plastic case was a bit flimsy, but nicely finished.

All "full HD" monitors are 1920x1080, so as the size goes up the pixels get larger. This 27 " monitor is bright, sharp has excellent off axis performance, and is BIG. Going from a 22" monitor to this 27" monitor made my work day in front of a screen MUCH more comfortable.

SSD's are generally good, and Samsung has a better than average reputation. I've used dozens of these (I am a computer tech) and never had a problem. To be fair, no other SSD brand has failed on me either. It will be 5 years or more before anything definitive can be said about the lifetime failure rates of these drives, but I have not had a single failure in 2+ years. In the same time period I have seen plenty of conventional drives fail at less than three years old.

I do IT consulting for a living, and I have replaced an awful lot of 1 terabyte and larger Seagate drives that died after 2-4 years. Needed a replacement in a hurry and this was the available item, so I bought it despite some misgivings. Hope Seagate has gotten their act together. They used to be the best.

Not all 23" HD monitors are the same. This monitor has nice bright LED backlighting and uses "in plane switching" (IPS) technology to control the pixels. IPS screens have excellent viewing angles, far superior to older screen technologies. Very easy on the eyes ....

I am an IT consultant, and dealing with low cost multi-function printers is one of my least favorite tasks. Whenever possible I encourage my customers to get this printer instead, and if they must have a fax/copier to buy that as a separate item. This Brother printer (and its nearly identical predecessors) is a dream. Always works, and the cost per page is very low.

I didn't need the features like password protection and encryption so I haven't tried those. This is a backup for my home PC, and I use the free software called EaseUS Todo backup with it. The large capacity of this drive allows me to store plenty of history of backups.

Work-around for making copies
I know this printer does not have a scanner to make copies but could you just take a picture of what you need a copy of with your phone and then send it to the printer?
As cameras on phones have gotten better and better, it has become quite reasonable to take a picture and print it (or save it) instead of using a scanner. The results won't equal a good scan, but are usable if content is more important than presentation.

Can it also print one side of the page only?
The typescripts I print are one side per page, not two sides per page.
Of course you can print one-sided. The duplex feature is available, but by default pages print on one side only. You have to deliberately select two sided printing in the print properties if that is what you want.

Will this work with Windows XP? Desktop is XP and laptop is Windows 7.
Yes, it will work as an external hard drive with Windows XP.
If there is any utility software pre-loaded on the drive for backup or encryption, that software might not have been tested on the obsolete XP operating system, but that won't interfere with using the drive.

Is it compatable with Linux?
Or is this a windows/mac device?
You can use any external hard drive with Linux. You may need to reformat it - but even that is not certain. If you connect it and it works, you're done. In the unlikely event the drive is not recognized, most Linux distributions come with the program called Gparted pre-installed, which can take care of reformatting the drive. Any pre-loaded software on the external disk will almost certainly be Mac or Windows specific, and not usable for Linux - but the drive will work fine as external storage.
