What's great about it: fast and great graphics
What's not so great: Battery life could be a tad longer
I needed to replace a laptop and decided to go with this one since it had the features I wanted and it got very good ratings. My family switched to all laptops about 5 years ago and while they are convenient and portable, there are some things I always missed from when I had desktops. Graphics was one. I've gotten some nice laptops in the past, but unless you wanted to spend thousands, you couldn't get a decent graphics package. This laptop has really sharp graphics with vibrant colors. Whether looking at photos or watching videos, what a difference. I had a very nice laptop before this one and I can say it blows the graphics of that one out of the water. This laptop is also very fast. I think it has to do with Windows 8 and how it operates, but it's still pretty quick. I don't know how it holds up to some type of games as I really haven't had time to try, but it works well with Photoshop and Dreamweaver as well as other programs that I had that were a few years old. Windows 8 took a little getting used to, but I haven't really had much problem with it. Just a little bit of a learning curve. And that's the OS not really the laptop itself. When it requires the extra power and the fan kicks on, it's a bit quieter than models I've had in the past. The touch screen is also a nice feature, although I don't really use it that often. The keyboard is pretty nice too, the keys aren't as loud when typing as some of the other keyboards I've used in the past. The battery is decent, but doesn't seem to last as long as my last one. I think I get about an actual 6-7 hours of use time compared to 8-10 that I got on my old one. But, other than that I don't have any real complaints. No computer is perfect, but I really like this laptop and am very satisfied with it.
This product is... Big screen size, easy to set up, lightning fast
About me... Parent with kids, Regularly process large video or graphics files, Comfortable with technology
I would recommend this to a friend!

Is there any way to turn off the touchpad when having an external mouse connected via USB?

Yes...go to the control panel...hardware and sound....mouse...and then you can disable the touchpad when you have a mouse connected.
