What's great about it: Cools great
What's not so great: Wish it was wider
Circulates air fine but not comfortable in the lap
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

can this replace a dying fan?

so i think the fan in my laptop is on the way out. is this a workable solution to the problem? i don't have the money to buy a new one and don't feel comfortable shipping it off some place to have it fixed, if possible
internal fans direct the airflow to and from the heat sinks to cool the processors. All this will do is pull that heat from the bottom of the laptop. This is not a suitable to replace internal fans.

can this be used with a 17.3 " laptop ?
not comfortably but if it's all you have it's worth using
