I bought an Epson Photo Scanner a few years ago, and was pleased with it. but as computers improved, I decided to upgrade the scanner to this one, hoping for faster scanning speeds. I was not disappointed. And it even has a few nice improvements to the software. One big improvement involves issues where the scanner is unable to differentiate between negatives (I have several from Antarctica and McMurdo; lots of white). So when viewing thumbs, they are fragmented. Two negatives (medium format) becomes 3 or 4. But if I select 'full', I see the strip as it was scanned. I can then use the mouse to select the borders of each slide, then hit scan. I now end up with the full negative/image. Also, in this mode, you can still use the image enhancers. So, needless to say, I am very happy with the speed of the scanner, as well as the software.

I would recommend this to a friend!

I purchased this computer for a very specialized, specific task. In order to perform this task, I had to install a Blackmagc HD capture card, a 5TB second drive (like other reviews suggested, I had to get a power cord from eBay), and an extra USB 3.0 card with four ports (too transfer high volumes of data to external drives). I then loaded Adobe Premiere Elements. I also removed McAfree and installed Webroot virus protection.

The computer was now ready to test. I plugged the GOYB cables from my HD camera, along with the RB audio cables from my 16mm projector (using an adapter from the speaker jack), threaded a 2000' 16mm sound film from an aircraft carrier, and proceeded to capture the audio and video via the Blackmagic card. The computers' processor speed and NATIVE 64 bit architecture (not to mention 12GB RAM), allowed a capture at reel time projection without the loss of a single frame, and the sound/picture remained perfectly in synch. I know this may be mumbo jumbo to many, but for those who understand what I am discussing, they will understand how impressive the performance is.

Editing the captured video for color and other issues was equally impressive. A one hour HD video with added audio, speed corrections, color corrections, titles, etc., took 23 minutes to fully render. Used to take hours!!

Needless to say, for the money, this is a spectacularly performing computer. I have not experienced a single negative issue.

I would recommend this to a friend!

What size negatives?

Can the Epson V550 scan B&W negatives, and if so, what size negatives are compatible?

Yes black and white, up to medium formatted negatives.

CAN IT SCAN ALL SIZE NEGITIVES OR JUST 35 MM

That is a broad question. it can't scan, for example, specialized 8x10 negatives. But, it can scan up to 3x5 medium format negatives.

Yes, and it is very simple to do.

Yes. I installed a Blackmagic HD card, and it works without any problems. Just make sure whatever card you use, get current drivers for Windows 10 AND 64 bit operating system.
