Extender is lowering my speed am I doing something wrong?

Just hooked it up and it connected fine. Problem is when I connect the _ext network the speed is about 2/2. When I connect to my main network it is supposed to be extending I get 50/12. Are there settings, channel, anything I should be looking at? Otherwise this is going back.
Start all over again and be patient. It's works.

It is installed about 50 feet from the router.

How exactly do you set this up with your wifi?

I had a router in my family room and an smart tv about 50 feet from it. I set both equipment it is working perfectly. Just foll I w the instructions in the wifi extender.
