What's great about it: Features, easy use
What's not so great: Not 1080p
I bought this for use in my spare room, mounted up on the wall fairly easily without any problems. I love that it has all the inputs that you could need as well as a DVD player. That makes a difference since there is no cable in the spare room, it's nice just to pop in one of the old DVD's. Value wise it was a great purchase and I'm not really disappointed at all, somewhat future proof with 2 HDMI ports, and quite simple to use.
Would certainly recommend or purchase again.

Just bought an Insignia HDTV and a Kindle Fire HD. Can I plug a HDMI micro cable from the Kindle to the TV to watch Amazon movies on the TV?

Assuming you have a Kindle Fire model that supports this function and the appropriate cable (typically a micro HDMI to HDMI cable, but check the documentation your Kindle Fire came with first) you should have no problem connecting it to one of the HDMI ports on the television.

Keep in mind on some tablets it does not mirror the screen 100%, but only works inside certain applications like the video player or something that displays media, again depending on the mobile device you are attempting to connect.

Some tablets phones use an MHL cable, please refer to the documentation for your device to see which cable you will need to connect to the HDMI input on the television.

Can this be hooked up to a VCR Player?

This model supports, CATV, Component and Composite Inputs, which are all typical outputs on a VCR, so yes.

How do i get the dvd to play in 720 resolution?

We just bought this TV but when we put a DVD in it says 420 resolution, we tried many different DVDs and they all play at 420. Also checked the settings and see no option to change the resolution for the DVD. The antenna TV plays at 720, so I'm wondering if the DVD only plays at 420?
I don't believe that the DVD player on this model up-converts DVD's from their lower resolution (480) to an HD resolution (720p/1080i). DVD players that do this don't actually increase the quality of the image on the disc as opposed to Blu-ray, just re-encode it at the higher resolution so that you might see some improvement in the overall picture quality. When you use an alternate source like the antenna it will receive digital channels at 720 or if you connect a Blu-ray player it will also display at a higher resolution giving you that clear picture.

Now just as a suggestion you can adjust the aspect ratio using the remote so it will display non widescreen DVD's in a letterbox format (black bars) so that people don't appear stretched out, which might improve your picture a bit.
