I have been using seagate products for over 24 years has always been a reliable brand, WD and hitachi not as good in fact I am replacing a failed WD 1TB with this Seagate drive in my iMac.
I would recommend this to a friend!

I simply want to know is, is this hard drive an internal ata 2.5 hard drive?
No this is a 3.5" desktop hard drive.

Yes it will work and make sure you connect the small cable to control fan speed to this had otherwise your cooling fan will freak out and run all the time.

Will this hard drive work with an 18 month old HP desktop computer with a build ID?

I have an 18-month old HP Pavillion with a 1TB Western Digital Caviar Green hard drive that came with it and just failed. HP support said that all their computers have a build ID that is on almost all the internal hardware, including the hard drive. They would not guarantee that any other hard drive I didn't buy from them would work. I think they're blowing smoke, but I wanted to check to see if anyone has every dealt with this. Thanks!
Yes this drive will work in your hp for sure, and you are correct that hp is trying to confuse you so that you buy from them. Ignore them.

No you need a 2.5" size hard drive to put inside the PS3.

No this seagate 3.5" drive is to big to fit inside the PS3, you need a laptop size 2.5" hard drive to put inside the PS3.

Can I use this hard drive to replace the original hard drive. Apple support was of no help and could not / would not supply me with a list of compatible drives.

Yes this product will work fine in your iMac i just replace one in my iMac and it worked fine. This drive has a connection for power management to control fan speed in your iMac if you forget to hook this connection up your fan will be louder and it will drive you nuts like it did to me.
