Tivo Roamio would have received 5 Stars. But, had major problems with the unit after purchase - warranty replacement is fine...so far.
- Required a restart every morning and after 4 weeks locked-up and would not restart at all.
Contacted Tivo, happy in the end, but a hassle. On Saturday before Christmas, cust. service agreed to 2-day ship a replacement prior to receiving the defective unit - great guy, very helpful. On Monday, when reading return instructions, we discovered the customer service guy screwed-up the order - actually entered as "ship new after return rcvd," Second call on Monday, rep. was nice, acknowledged mistake, upgraded our remote for free, but claimed nothing could be done - when I pressed the issue, the call was bumped to a "supervisor" with an attitude, who reluctantly agreed to overnight the unit and correct their mistake - however, no promises. Came in the end. But, I had to push hard...way too hard. New unit is working great and the remote is cool - slide out keyboard for entering search info.
Tivo customer for 10+ years. Love it. Probably just bad luck, defects will happen.
Also, another small issue
- Cable provider's tuning adapter (Motorola MTR700) had incompatible firmware and prevented switched digital video channels from receiving a demand signal.
Resolved: Got lucky, cable company released updated firmware 3 weeks after they were notified. We only had to suffer for a week or so.

Cable cards

I know it requires two CableCARDs to record 4 shows, but it will still work with only 1, right?
Only 1 cable card slot, must be a "multi-stream" card. The older, two tuner units had two slots; which took 1 "single-stream" card each.
