What's great about it: It fits in the hole we needed to fill from an old ice machine.
What's not so great: The shelves, door and temperature.
It is an adequate beverage center, but could certainly be improved upon. We have it set on the coldest setting and it is a good drinking temperature, but doesn't get really cold. Cans and soda bottles do not stand up well on the wire racks. Final concern is that the door needs to be carefully shut. If you push it too hard (swing the door) it pops open instead of sealing.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Can you switch the door to open from the right side? Are shelves movable?

Not certain about being able to switch the door, but the shelves are adjustable.
