The Apple 30pin CCK is the only way to go. There are other cheaper brands, but they don't give you all the functionality, reliability and durability of this one.

What's great about it: Portrait/landscape orientation, light
What's not so great: Hard to rotate
I wanted something that allowed portrait and landscape use without having to remove it. Good value over all. Good protection for the screen and corners when traveling. Still relatively light weight.
I would recommend this to a friend!

What's great about it: Crisp and clear bright 9.7 in screen, fast, light
What's not so great: No flash drive or SD card supported. Price is at the high end of the market.
Over all I am very pleased with it. I marked it average in Features due to lack of connections for external storage media and in Value due to it being at the top (or above) of the market price range for it's feature set.
This product is... responsive touch screen, easy to set up, lightning fast, Variety of apps available, A nice compact size, Sharp graphics, Easy to navigate, Great screen size, Comfortable to hold

Does this case support the SMART COVER feature?

I understand it's for the iPad Air but will it activate the open/close smart cover functionality available on the iPad?
No, it does not.
