What's great about it: Multifunctional and Easy to install
What's not so great: If you don't have Windows 8 it is a new experience. It's a BIG computer
I was apprehensive at first when i saw this computer. It is a big one, however I still made it fit on my Desktop. If you are looking for a compact or small computer this is not the one for you. I opted for the Geek Squad to transfer my files from my old computer and also took the 1 year of Geek Squad just in case. I am glad I did.
The computer was easy to hook up. It comes with a mouse and keyboard., since it is a USB connecting machine. I did not like the keyboard or the mouse, but at least it was there to get started. (The keys on the keyboard are flat and not raised, so I kept making typing errors. And I just don't like a mouse that is not wireless) I did end up buying a wireless mouse and a gaming keyboard, but that was just my personal preferences. What comes with the machine is sufficient to start using it.
I was really frustrated at first, because I could not set up many of my programs or find the websites I needed because I was not familiar with Windows8. They did not transfer my Bookmarks to my new computer so I lost all my old addresses. Make sure you ask them to transfer that data to the machine. Also, make sure you request that they transfer all of your email from your old computer. I lost all my saved mail. I did have an external hard drive which had some of my info on it and that was what helped me get set up quicker.
I was really glad I opted for the year of Geek Squad. Windows 8 was totally new to me and between that and needing some of my programs updated to work on Windows 8, the Geek Squad took care of everything.
I have been using this computer for a month and have been very very happy with it's performance. There are still things I am learning about it, like back up etc. But those are things I can call the Geek Squad and ask if I need to.
I highly recommend taking out that year. It's good on 3 computers that you own, so they will repair any of those 3 as needed. I had them restore my old computer to factory specs and gave it to my grandsons to use.
This product is... quiet, easy to set up, a bit bigger than expected

is this computer easy to set up hp 400-214 w207does this need amouse
This compute comes with a keyboard and a mouse. They are USB port connecting. Old plug in appliances do not work with this computer unless you know some way to adapt them.
It was easy to set everything up. But Windows 8 was new for me. I took a year of Geek Squad assistance and it has been well worth it.

what about speakers
Dell Inspiron 3000 series-- package desktop and monitor--but don't see speakers
It does not come with speakers. It does have a cheesy keyboard and mouse though. I used the speakers that I had with my old computer. I also bought a better keyboard and wireless mouse, my preference though. What comes with the machine is sufficient to start using immediately.

do any computers include fully licensed Microsoft Office, or are thay all just trial versions?
This computer did not come with Microsoft Office. You have to install it yourself. It does come with one year of Webroot Virus protection. It is a really secure program.

I opted to have the Geek Squad transfer all of my files/data from my old computer to the new one. It was well worth it. Although they did not transfer my Bookmarks or my Emails. So, if you do this then make sure you ask.

You will have to install some of your programs yourself and they have to be compatible with Windows 8. I use Family Tree Maker, so that was one of the ones that I did have to install. It does not have Microsoft Office, so you will have to install that program if you use it. One tip I can give you is to buy an external hard drive. I save all my programs on there and just plug it into my new computer to reinstall those programs.
