My son nagged for cotton candy machine maker for Christmas, never had one or do I know how it works. Got this machine on a special from best buy, the machine was small and practical. Very easy to use and very easy to clean up. Makes a perfect cotton candy everytime. My 7 year old son love to use it! the best part about is you can put just about any hard candy and it comes out to be cotton candy almost instantly.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Can use the boxes of the cotton candy for this machine

I am not sure what you mentioned by the "boxes of cotton candy" means but if you are talking about the sugar, yes you can use sugar in place the hard candy for this machine.

how much hard candy is needed for one serving of cotton candy?

You can put about 3 to four pieces of candy at a time. Candy canes are good to use, just break them into an inch size and place them in the wheel, or you can use the round peppermint candy as well. Just don't overload the wheel.
