I was not interested in a smart tv. My game console has all the smart apps that I need. What I wanted out of a tv was awesome picture. Thats it. Let me tell ya, this tv has got it. I looked online for calibration settings and Im stunned at how clear and accurate this tv is. Its smooth but not forced smooth looking like on some 600hz lcd tvs. After having this tv for a little while, Ill never own an lcd. I have noticed absolutely no image retention, zero motion blur, fast motion is perfection. I have this running through my surround sound with an optical cable because the speakers are a bit hollow, but Im an audiophile so it may not bother others. I have heard a lot worse from tv speakers. Do not put this tv in a room with a lot of uncontrolled light such as windows and plan on keeping lamps out of the question. The glare is the only major drawback. I have a big overhead light on my ceiling fan and its bright. It doesnt glare or wash out colors or contrast, but Ive had to add blackout curtains because the glare is unreal. Really wish AR coatings were standard and not reserved for the top tier plasmas. Such a shame plasma is going away. It really is superior in picture quality. Even a low-mid range such as this will outperform even top tier lcds and "leds". I chose to take the good with the glare on my decision and I couldnt be happier.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Blue Ray hookup

I have Direct TV and cannot receive HD signals to my home because of neighbor's trees. Can I still get the benefits of a Blue Ray hookup with this tv?
Absolutely. If you have a good internet connection, you can connect any HD source that has hdmi out and it will be perfect HD.

Streaming in On Demand without HD

Can I stream in On Demand and Amazon Instant Video using a Smart Blue Ray player and the proper cables if I don't have a HD provider? I have Direct TV and unable to receive HD signals.
Also will the picture be just as good as if I had HD? I heard plasma runs hot...concerning?
I can tell if a source isnt HD. Its not terribly noticeable like on a lot of lcd tvs on a non hd source where they are pixelated looking. Its very smooth and lifelike even non hd. Id say its way above average for non hd sources compared to lcd and led. You can most definitely stream hd through your blu-ray player with hdmi cables. And it is unreal how clear this tv is. Much better than lcd or led any day even while playing non hd sources which I do often as well.

As for it running hot, they do emit heat by their very nature. Never is my tv hot to the touch. But warm is more the word Id choose. If youre within 4-6 inches or less, you can feel some gental heat radiating but its not concerning.

attachments to the 5300 model

Am I able to connect a dvd, dvr, wwi players, tv ears and net flicks to this model tv? Also what is meant by "smart capable" in the description? In the future if I decide to go 3D is there an attachment or do I have to buy a new tv? So many questions, hope I'm not confusing. Would like the answers soon because I am in the market for a new tv asap. Thank you
This tv isnt 3d capable. It does have a port to attach smart devices. Thats whats meant by smart capable. You will have to buy a new tv if you want 3d.
