can I use this to record onto an iPod

with the usb plug in the front does this allow you to record right to an iPod or MP3 player direct from the cd player without using a computer?
The USB ports are intended to be used for external flash storage, not an iPod. An iPod requires MP3's to be logged into iTunes and formatted before an iPod could play the file. You would need to transfer the file on to a flash drive, move that to your computer, then copy the file into iTunes.

What type of cartridges you use?

As this is a laser printer, this requires toner cartridges to function. Try Model: TN-420 (SKU: 1183941). This is the recommended toner as listed under the manufacture specifications.

Can you add tunes using a napster gift card?

If you have a gift card for Napster, you can use it to purchase the songs you would like and then download them on to your player. In other words, yes you can.
