VGA or HDMI port?

My TV does not have a USB port, but is HD and has VGA and HDMI ports (which we use to play Netflicks through a laptop). Can I use Chromecast if I get a converter cable, eg. USB-to-HDMI?
Chromecast uses an HDMI connection, you don't have to use USB as long as you are plugged in to AC power.
Or you can use USB for the power source.
