What's great about it: Brings internet
What's not so great: Time Warner Cable
It brings you internet and will pay for itself fairly quickly when you consider the cost to rent from your service provider. Chances are its comcast or time warner. I have a "choice" between the two and now that they're the same, choosing the right isp provider is now easier than ever.
This device is compatible with TWC.
You can connect it to a more powerful router if you have a large area to cover with many devices, or live in a nuclear bunker with lead-lined drywall.
It does its job, which is to bring internet into your home. It wont fix a bad connection due to servicer issues.

Present modem includes land line phone connection but subject product does not. How do I address this?

what you described sounds like a dsl line. this is a cable modem. do not get a cable modem for dsl internet.

buy a cable modem for cable internet.
buy a dsl modem for dsl internet.

i would call your service provider for a list of devices that will work on their network. do not be stubborn and think one thats not on their list will work. it wont.

What modem will do the job?

We have brighthouse for tel, tv and internet. What modem wld do the job?
get a simple cable modem, and bridge it to a powerful router.

your router is what intelligently allocates internet to your devices. the modem simply allows you to bring internet into your home.
