I wanted a small tv for my bedroom, and I didn't want to pay a fortune for it! This tv fit my needs exactly. Very happy with it.

Will this tv accept input from a cable box by a coaxial cable, or does it require an HDMI cable for input?

It does not require an HDMI cable. I'm not using a box, but I have it plugged in directly to a coax cable.

connect to cable digital channels without cable box

My cable company has digital tv; however, I don't use a cable box and connect directly with my larger Insignias to the cable connection. I just returned another smaller (different brand) tv which had only the ATSC tuner and which wouldn't pick up the cable channels. Will this set pick up cable channels without the box?
Yes, I have mine connected to a cable and I don't use a box. No problems.
