does this work with an Apple and do you have to load a cd in order to load it into your system. Thank you

No cd or dvd.
Just hook up the netgear and turn on a device to customize the settings (like a laptop, smart phone or computer). Very easy to setup and the manual was easy to read. If you need help, contact netgear...

Can I get reception outside of my house when the router is inside upstairs

You should be able to get reception. Although, if you’re near your netgear, but in a metal building (like a metal shed) the signal will not reach And we had this issue. We ended up having to purchase a second netgear; to put inside the metal shed. That way, we are able to have a signal inside the building now! Yay
