I have in cartridges from my hp6600, will they work in the 6830?

Can I opreate this with only a black cartridge, or do all 4 cartridges need to be installed?

I believe they all must be installed but if you do not want to print in color just change the settings in your computer, to do this just hit the print button when you want to print something then look closely at the options and select Gray Scale.
you should not have to change that again until you want to print in color.

HOW DO I CHANGE THE INK CARTRIDGES?

This is one of the redeeming features of this printer , it is very easy just lift the lid and take them out one at a time so you don't get them wrong.

Will this printer work with Windows Vista?

you need to call Geek Squad on that one ... But I would seriously doubt it, as few printers are backwards compatible, BTW just buy a new computer yours is seriously out of date and you are missing out a lot in life.

Which cartridge does the hp 6830 use?

go to Google and type in hp 6830 ink look at all the options, BTW no printer these days recognize generic ink's you must purchase original MFG ink

No, and the cartridges are very expensive.

yes it is a setting when you press print just look for the setting it may say Gray scale
