There's not a lot to say. It's small, it doesn't need power, and it works. I format them and use them as extended storage. I haven't had a problem with a Seagate portable drive yet.

What's great about it: It's cheap, has the basics, fairly simple.
What's not so great: Little underpowered, but you get what you pay for.
Purchased to allow basic internet browsing and email, occasional simple MS Office use. Needed as an extra for a mobile office. Fits the bill nicely. If you're going to work on something extensively or expect top performance this would not be for you.

movies
We are looking for a hard drive we can load dvds on to take in our travel trailer. We hate taking all the movies.
I use makemkv to rip the dvd and handbrake to compress the file to a smaller size and have over 100 dvd's on one of these. USB 3.0 is fast enough that I can play them from the drive on my laptop.

As long as it has a usb port. If it has a blue usb port it will transfer at a higher speed.

USB 2.0 required, will USB 3.0 work?
Looking for external 1 TB with usb 2.0 ------will your WD - My Passport Ultra 1TB External USB 3.0 Hard Drive - work for me? Using on a Dish DVR for additional backup and storage.Must have own power supply also. dish recommends WD and also Seagate.Thanks.
This drive is USB 3, it will use a USB 3 port at it's full speed. I didn't look at the minimum requirements but if it says 2.0 required it's just saying that it won't work with USB 1, it needs at least 2.0. This drive gets it's power from the USB, so there is no external power supply. That might be the stopper if Dish says it needs it own power supply. You would be better to look for "desktop" external drives instead of "portable".

Can I use this as a working external hardrive?
I am a CPA and have multiple companies QuickBooks Enterprise files saved in a Dropbox Folder which I work off of. I want to transfer my "working" copies of QuickBooks Enterprise to WD Passport and back up to DropBox but don't know if the WD works as an extended hard drive that I can work off of and it is saved in real time rather than having to start a back up process after I am finished with each company file. Please let me know.
If I understand what you are looking for, then yes. When you plug the device in Windows will install drivers and you will have it mapped as a drive. You can access the drive in Windows Explorer just like any other usb drive. It does have backup software bundled with it that can be installed but not necessary to use the drive.
