Can I set this tablet so that there needs to be a code entered to open/unlock it?
Yes, it's in the settings. It's good cause u need a password every time it wakes up.

I ask because every case I find is for hd or 2015 and this doesn't say if it's either. I'm looking for specific cases for kids.

What happend to other items should have received or already started w/o items
purchased for christmas gifts and it came with the free virus scan for 6 months. Yet the virus scan started already and the items are not even here yet? also it gave free cloud storage but it never showed up in store. Anyone know what happened how to handle? I also dont know what cases to get as they were out and I see there are several versions. What version case do I need?
Ur free virus scan 6 month count down won't start until it's on the fire so no worries. Cloud storage is via an app. Amazon cloud. U load from app store. U have to get a case that says it is compatible with the Amazon Fire 7, 2015. Get it on Amazon cause it's way cheaper than getting it at the store.

Being this does not have Google Play,can the WWE Network be downloaded from the built in app site,we hve found sevrsl tablets that will not allow WWE
You can only download apps from Amazon app store. Check on their site if they have WWE app. I don't believe they do.

loading games
I want to get this for my dad. He is very ill and can no longer do much. I was wondering if I can just put games on it like solitaire and spider solitaire...maybe some other games (brain games) that aren't too hard and would hold his interest. He doesn't have a router or even high speed internet, so I would have to load them on for him
As long as Amazon app store has the games ur looking for, u can add them for him via wireless router. Ud have to take it from him every now and then to update the apps via a wireless router

How do I turn device on?
I recently purchased a kindle fire tablet. The battery is fully charged but the device will not turn on unless the power cord is connected. Is there something I need to do to get started?
You just press and hold the power button on the top of tablet until it turns on. Takes a few seconds.

Like the original Kindle, is the screen still visible in the sun?
Like the IPAD you can't really use it in the sun light on the beach.
I have has no issues seeing the screen outside. Great little tablet.
